I grew up in rural western Pennsylvania, have lived in central New York state and southern West Virginia, and now live in central Minnesota. I work at Liturgical Press (but this is a personal blog related to the writing I do on a freelance basis; nothing I post here is intended to reflect the positions or policies of Liturgical Press or Saint John’s Abbey).
I am the author of
- Struggle, Condemnation, Vindication: John Courtney Murray’s Journey toward Vatican II (Liturgical Press, 2015)
- Faith Meets World: The Gift and Challenge of Catholic Social Teaching (Liguori Publications, 2013)
- The Eucharistic Prayer: A User’s Guide (Liturgical Press, 2010)
My articles have been published by
- Our Sunday Visitor
- U.S. Catholic
- The Priest
- The Catholic Answer
- Religion Teacher’s Journal
- and more.
I also do some translation work from Italian, including these books:
- The Spiritual Meaning of the Liturgy: School of Prayer, Source of Life, by Goffredo Boselli
- Beyond Pius V: Conflicting Interpretations of the Liturgical Reform, by Andrea Grillo
I earned my STB at the Gregorian University and my STL in sacramental theology from The Catholic University of America. Prior to coming to Liturgical Press, I worked as executive director of two nonprofit agencies which serve people living in poverty in Mingo County, West Virginia. Having lived in quite a few places, central Appalachia remains my favorite place on the planet.
I live with my wife and our 7 kids (though two are now out of the house) in Albany, Minnesota, just a few miles from Saint John’s Abbey in Collegeville.
And now, for fun:
